F Cooke’s pie-and-mash shop opened on Kingsland High Street in 1862 and fed the East End for more than a century. Its tiled front room is now Grade II listed.
Today it’s The Black Eel, a pub from Walthamstow’s Exale Brewing. Get a drink in the old shop, then keep walking. Behind it are room after room, darts, shuffleboard, a karaoke room and a huge garden out back.
Good beer, proper food and a Sunday roast.
