Fish for breakfast. Billingsgate before dawn.
Billingsgate Market · Canary Wharf · Experiences & activities
Billingsgate is London’s wholesale fish market. It left the City for the Isle of Dogs in 1982 and still trades while most of London is asleep.
Walk the wet market floor among traders, chefs and fishmongers, and buy straight from the stalls. Saturday is the day to go. Get there around 4.30am, before the best of it has gone.
Its days on this site are numbered, so go while it’s still here.
Wear closed, non-slip shoes. No under-12s, dogs or wheeled bags on the market floor. Poplar and Blackwall DLR are about five minutes’ walk.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 4am to 8.30am.
